What is GitHub?
GitHub is not an app store but the place where many open-source projects keep their code. Developers publish ready-to-install files (an APK for Android, installers for desktop systems) on a project’s “Releases” page.
You get the app first-hand, often as soon as it is released. Updates are not automatic, unless you use a helper such as Obtainium on Android.
How to get GitHub
- 1 Nothing to install: open the app’s Releases page and download the file for your system (on Android, the .apk).
- 2 On Android, allow your browser to install unknown apps when asked.
- 3 For automatic updates on Android, add the project to Obtainium.
- Run by
- GitHub (Microsoft)
- Official website
- github.com
